Heidi Smith leads the microbiology discipline at Front Range Community College in Fort Collins, CO, where she teaches a wide range of biology courses each semester, including microbiology, anatomy and physiology, and biotechnology. Her collaboration with faculty nationwide, along with her work developing and implementing innovative digital learning tools, has transformed both her in-person and online teaching methods and significantly improved student learning outcomes. Beyond the classroom, Heidi manages a federal grant program that prepares and supports underrepresented students for undergraduate research opportunities and successful transfer into four-year STEM degree programs.

She is an active member of the American Society for Microbiology and contributed to the task force responsible for creating their Curriculum Guidelines for Undergraduate Microbiology Education. Away from campus, Heidi enjoys exploring Colorado’s outdoors with her husband and their three young children.
